Introduction: I am Jack Merridew. I am ten years old, and I'm from London, England. My favorite color is red. You'll find out later why I like that color throughtout this diary. Back in England I was always in charge, and since we're on this island, I don't plan for it to change any time soon. My parents are Jon and Paula Merrridew. My favorite thing to do is doing anything that requires me being in charge at all times.
Dear Diary: Today was the first day at the island. Turns out that our plane crashed and their are no adults. The oldest boy here is Ralph. There is also a fat kid here named Piggy. He has glasses and asthma. I think I'm going to make fun of him a lot. Back to Ralph, I'm very upset because he was made chief and I wasn't. I guess his way of being friends was making me the chief of the choir boys. We gave each other a grin in agreement.
Dear Diary: Ralph decided that we're going to make a fire, so that if a boat came then they would see us. We also have meetings now that are called whenever the conch is blown. Also, whoever is holding the conch is th eonly one who can talk. I really don't like Piggy. He's annoying. I always call him fat; because he is! So to help me with my frustrations, I decided to use his specs to light the fire. That'll teach him a lesson. We also have a lot of littluns running around too. Speaking of them, one of them disappeared.
Dear Diary: I went hunting today. It was blistering hot. I literally felt my lips cracking. On the other hand it was also a disappointing day. I went to hit the pig with spear, bu it didn't stay. To make it even more humiliating, the other boys were with me. Now, Ralph wants to gather shelter. Personally, I'd rather be hunting. I have to make a strategy to help me blend in more with the trees. I'm starting to think thats why the pig's are running away, because of the color of my skin. I have to think of something.
Dear Diary: I've got the perfect idea! I'm going to paint my face with brown, red, white, and green, and more colors. I'm going to use it to blend in when I go hunting. I first showed it to Roger when he was at the bathing pool. He said, "you don't look half a mess". I guess that's a good thing. But whatever! I killed my first pig today, and we're having a feast! We crept up on the pig and killed her. "Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Spill her blood". That's the chant we sing once we've killed a pig. When we got back I was going to show the others our kill. Obviously Ralph was upset about something. The stupid signal fire went out. Who cares! I've killed my first pig and we're having a feast. All he's worried about is the stupid signal fire. For some reason I apoligized to him. I could tell how upset he was. Anyways, we had our feast. Piggy had the nerve to ask me if he could get some of the meat. I told him no because he didn't hunt. For some reason Ralph thinks he needs to protect Piggy. So I gave him a little piece. Now Ralph wants to call a meeting. We'll see what he has to say.
Dear Diary: They say there's a beast. Like I told my hunters, if there was a beast, I would've seen it by now. I've been all over this island. We were all arguing about the beast situation. Since I had the conch, I decided to call all the boys out. I said they were all sissies. The littluns are having nightmares and imaging things. Percival said that the beast comes out of the water. Simon suggests that maybe it's a ghost. Today Samneric said they saw the beast. They said it had claws and teeth. Simon, Roger, Ralph, and I decided to go and look for the beast. There was only one place that I haven't been yet, and that's where were going. We went on top of the mountain , and there it was. The beast. Hunched over with his face in his hands. We were more paralyzed, than were scared.
Dear Diary: Yesterday was a very memorable day. For the first time we saw the beast. Today was even more interesting. Earlier I tried to overthrow Ralph as chief. I called him a coward in front of everyone. I told them to vote whether they wanted him to stay chief or not. Nobody voted to not make him chief. Humiliated and upset I left the island. I told them if they wanted to join me then they must leave with me. I chose to stay on the other part of the island. Like I expected most of the biguns came to my side of the island. I decided to leave a pig's head on a stick as the beast's gift, so he won't harm us.
Dear Diary: Simon died today. My hunters and I thought he was the beast, so we killed him. He came out of the forest while we were having our feast. The way he was crawling and limping out of the trees made us think he was the beast. Before we could even realize who he was, he was already dead. His body washed up on shore that night because of all the rain. There was nothing we could do about it. The next day, at night me and my hunters snuck to Ralph's side of the island, and we stole their fire and Piggy's glasses. I know for a fact that he's going to want them back. He'll have to get through me first.
Dear Diary: Ralph and Piggy came to Castle Rock where we were and he demanded to have Piggy's glasses back and their fire. Jack and I fought. He said I was a beast and a swine bloody, bloody thief. That was the last straw. I stabbed him with my spear. Then out of nowhere the conch shattered into millions of pieces, and Piggy flew over the mountain. Roger flung a huge rock at Piggy and he fell, which led to his death. The only thing you could see over the mountain was red, white, and pink. From Piggy;s blood and the conch. Piggy was finally dead.
Dear Diary: Well during the whole argument I took the twins as my hostages. I tied them up at first, but then i decided to make them stand on top of the mountain and tell me if he saw Ralph coming back. Ralph ran away after I stabbed him. Like I said, he's a coward. But anyway the next day all of the hunters are going to hunt for Ralph. Were willing to do any and everything to kill him.
Dear Diary: The day has come for Ralph to DIE. Today I asked the twins where Ralph was hiding, and they showed me to a little cave where he was. The cave was to small for me to crawl through , so I lite it on fire. Ralph ran out in shock. We all chased him and all of a sudden, out of nowhere, a naval officer appeared. The officer asked a lot of questions. He said that he saw the smoke that was coming from the island. When he asked Ralph who was in charge, Ralph answered, "I am". I was annoyed. He also asked if there was any adults. That was an obvious question. Everything was over. Just as quick as we got on the island, we were being rescued.
